Meet Gail Symons

Gail’s Great-Grandfather, William Symons, was granted the land patent for his family ranch in 1890, the same year Wyoming became a state. Her father commuted the eight miles out to Wyarno where his parents resided while he and his family enjoyed the Sheridan town life.

The house on Whitney Street placed them within School District 2 and Gail attended Linden Elementary School, Central Jr. High School and Sheridan High School (Go Broncs!). The YMCA became Gail’s social hub for competition swimming, life guarding and teaching swim classes.
After graduating from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Marketing, Gail was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. As a Supply Corps officer, her duties ranged from food service to retail to financial management and program management. It was her honor to serve the country for seventeen years before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.
The data based process improvement and systems thinking learned in the Navy led to a second career at General Electric with certification as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Gail retired in 2016 from GE Healthcare after almost twenty years driving costs down, increasing capability and supporting the effectiveness of others in managing suppliers.

Since retirement, Gail has devoted her time to community service in a variety of organizations including Rotary Club of Sheridan, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Sheridan County Cattlewomen, 4-H Mountain Camp and American Association of University Women (AAUW). In addition, she belongs to the Wyoming Business Alliance and Wyoming Taxpayers Association. Gail attends the full  legislative sessions to understand what is going on and update Civics307.com, a nonpartisan blog on legislative processes.  The blog provides citizens greater visibility to the legislation process and track bills as they work their way through both chambers.  Recently, she established a nonpartisan, non-profit website, www.WyVote.vote, with the mission that all eligible Wyoming citizens are informed voters in each election.  The website serves as a clearinghouse to register, vote, look up elected offices, cross issues to elected offices and find all candidates on the ballot at the next election for your county.
